Hike Taal Volcano "Bulkang Taal" | Travel Blog

Since we had two more weekends left in the Philippines, my friend Alberto and me decided to go to the Taal Volcano on June 28, 2014. We choose this destination because it was close to Manila and because is the world´s smallest active volcano, so we wanted to give it a try!

At the top of Taal Volcano

The Taal Volcano is located on the island of Luzon, about 60 km SSE of Metro Manila. This volcano has the a record of 33 eruptions for the last 400 years, the last one was on 1977.But don´t worry because the volcano is constantly being monitored by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. To be able to visit it, the alert level has to be below 2 and since July 5, 2001 the alert level has been 1, so trekking is possible.

We left Mandaluyong at 6:30 am and we took the MRT Taft Station and then took a jeepney to Crow Bus terminal. We boarded the bus bound for Tagaytay for 87 pesos and it takes only 1 hour and a half to get there. The weather was hot, so I recommend you to take water and some snacks.

Jeepney in Batangas

At Ligaya Drive we met a Kuya who took us in tricycle for 150 pesos going to Talisay, Batangas which is 8km, its all down hill, the road is bumpy but very fun! The view is so nice and you smell the fresh air!

Tricylce Going to Batangas

Once we reached the resort, we filled up the registration and paid 1500 pesos per person for the round trip and it included the guide. We were lucky because no one else was in the boat so it was like our private boat haha! The driver had a plastic because you will get wet!

Boat Ride to Taal

While you are in the boat, the view is amazing and when you are reaching the land you see more boats and the people are very nice. By the way at the foot of tall Volcano, we had to pay 50 pesos for each entrance fee and 50 more for the boat landing.

Taal Boat Renting

When you get there you can choose to rent a donkey for 500 pesos or just hike, we wanted to hike so we went walking, it was just 30 minutes going up and then 30 coming back. The bad thing is that the land is dry so when the donkeys came all dust was in the air.

Once we got to the Summit we were blown by the beauty of the crater lake, the panoramic view will leave you breathless. We stayed there for a long time, admiring the view and taking a lot of pictures. You can also rent a golf stick and hit some golf balls. Its a touristic thing, you can take pictures it looked fun haha!

  1. Thanks for this post.. I have stood at the very spot overlooking Lake Taal where you took the first photo on this post :) Beautiful! I love Batangas region and recently went to Fortune Island which isn't too far away from there. I've been to Mt. Lobo and Mt. Maculot and trekked to Lake Taal. Nice adventure, and it's not too difficult to get there from Manila :) Thanks, I look forward to reading future posts from your blog.
